Mind wanderings

Or maybe I should call this Random Thoughts. I’ve been thinking about what to write this time around and I’m coming up with - not much.
But I have been looking at the Drug War scene and noticing a few things. In my last blog, Serve and Protect I wrote about a drug raid in Minneapolis that narrowly missed having someone killed - not for lack of effort on either side (the police at a wrong address based on bad info or the non-offending citizen who didn’t know, at first, who was breaking into his home).
Since then, there have been two other highly publicized raids that did result in death. One of the victims was another mother of six who was reportedly holding her youngest child when she was shot and killed by a SWAT officer in the home’s upstairs area. To date, not much detail on the circumstances of that one. One question, though, aren’t officers- even though armed with a No-Knock warrant - supposed to announce themselves as they kick in the doors so there will be no confusion as to who is doing it? Then, at least, there may only be confusion as to why.
Can you spell out what the Drug Czar’s agency initials - ONDCP - mean? It means the Office of National Drug Control Policy. That’s no fun - boring, even. Not only that, it’s not even an acronym (you know, a word formed by the first letters of the words in a name - like Special Weapons And Tactics?). How about, drug abuse Control Restriction And Prohibition. Easy to say (like SWAT) and remember, right?
Then, when we talk about ending the drug war, we could simply, succinctly, say, “Just cut out da crap!”
I think we need to send our guy Brad Jardis (New Hampshire active cop) back after Mr. McCain since he seems to be having some success in his campaign. He has changed position on some other issues, maybe he has on the drug war, too. Maybe he’d give a better answer to Brad’s questions this time.
Or, maybe not.
Anyway, it is a new year and we’re still working for some common sense in how our government handles the drugs issue. Looks like they are going to keep on with Continued Ridiculous Active Prohibition (did I repeat myself?).
Ahhh, crap!
