2006: Freedom in the rearview mire
by Garry Reed, The Loose Cannon Libertarian
It’s time to play “Year in Review,” that game beloved by the MSM (that’s cybersay for mainstream media) because, come the new year, journalist types are hung over, bored, unimaginative, and generally find it easier to dig through old headlines than to write something original.
No difference here. So, from a hung-over, bored, unimaginative libertarian point of bleary view, here’s looking at 2006 in the rearview mire:
January - Missouri researchers found the world’s largest known prime number. It’s 9.1 million digits long, or 2 to the 30,402,457th power minus 1, and is named M30402457. An accountingcrat at the Office of Budget Management immediately demanded that the federal government seize the number. “We need it to track the deficit,” the green eyeshade crat declared.
Americans who care about our veterans and doing the right thing have a problem. It is a serious problem but together we can solve it.
I have the great honor of sitting on a panel for a political discussion with other leaders of the Durham community. Other county chairs of other parties have been invited, and since that is one office I hold, I am on the invite list. I get 10 minutes for opening remarks. I’ve decided that a simple explanation of party principles and misconception vs. reality is in order. Here is what I plan to say:
Anti-gun Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett should financially reimburse armed robbery victims who have been left unable to defend themselves, thanks to the policies of these two politicians, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.
Is Washington Really Willing To Pay the Price?
According to the Encarta Dictionary; morality is standards of conduct that are accepted as right or proper.
We were both riding in the back seat of the car, on our way to a concert. We were talking back and forth about minutia, and then “J” turned to me and said.
A blanket of snow covered the ground and crunched under the weight of small feet running and laughing in the protection and shelter of a time long past.
I attended a public hearing concerning a bond referendum at a Board of Aldermen meeting in my hometown during the autumn of last year. The public was heard with approximately 80% of the speakers in opposition to the bonds. One speaker in particular spoke prophetically as she accused the aldermen of emotional blackmail. Never did I expect the truthfulness of her words would be proven so soon after they were spoken.
I have absolutely no idea where this past year went.
