Nevada Campaign Protests Ashcroft’s Visit

Posted in Press Releases by R Lee Wrights on August 26th, 2003

courtesy of Kevin TumaRENO, NV — The Nevada Campaign to Defeat the Patriot Act (NCDPA) is astounded by the blatant attempt of the federal government to appropriate local law enforcement from the communities and citizens they serve.

As grassroots opposition against the USA PATRIOT Act grows United States Attorney General John Ashcroft is using taxpayer dollars to visit Nevada as well as other states in an attempt to shore up dwindling support for the USA PATRIOT Act and related extra-constitutional executive orders passed in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

According to Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) “Mr. Ashcroft is an administrator, not a legislator. It is not his job to write laws or say what the law should be. His job is to execute the laws passed by Congress. It is not his place to chide Congress or the American people for not supporting his viewpoint. He certainly should not be spending taxpayer money to lobby for his political positions.”

A monument to ungodly arrogance

Gadsden FlagThe schism between Middle America and Progressive Statists continues to widen into a chasm. Increasingly, there are two Americas–one that believes in worship of the Almighty God, and one that believes in worship of the Almighty Government. The latter cannot leave the former alone. The PC anti-religionists (read: Anti-Christians) continue to seek out and destroy examples of public Bible reverence wherever they can be found, as a conquering army would systematically eradicate nests of enemy soldiers.

Generally these little altercations between the Ungodly Righteous and recalcitrant Jesus believers end quickly—the Federal court system today is absurdly liberal, so the endings of these court dramas over prayers and monuments are usually a foregone conclusion. Usually it goes slick as silk: The Christians lose, a bunch of appeals go to the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court promptly tells the Christians to drop dead, rules against them, it becomes a national news story after the fact, and all that follows is a lot of whimpering about it over the Internet.

It hasn’t played out quite that way with Chief Justice Roy Moore and his fight to keep a statue of the Ten Commandments on display in the Alabama Supreme Court building. It’s been a slow news summer, after all, and nothing is coming out of Iraq but a bunch of griping from abused US soldiers stationed there. There seem to be no new stories about shark attacks or Hollywood celebrities killing their wives. So the news media decided to tune in on the case of Judge Moore–before its process is resolved–and as a result, the Ungodly Righteous have stubbed their toes on public opinion.

NY Libertarians blast politicians’ “Mental Power Failure” in handling the Northeast Blackout

Posted in Press Releases by R Lee Wrights on August 21st, 2003

Libertarian PartyBellport, NY- Members of the Libertarian Party of New York have labored to set the record straight about the power system in the days following the region-wide power blackout on August 14.

LPNY Chair John Clifton has questioned why so many officials felt compelled to make ill-considered statements, such as the initial erroneous speculation that a lightning strike in Niagara caused a grid failure that spread to 21 power plants.

Likewise shaky, said Clifton, was the rush of many to blame “deregulation” for the transmission failure, “as it’s far more accurate to say that utilities were re-regulated under the sham reforms of the last decade,” with no net decline in total government involvement. “It’s as if the politicians are suffering from a mental power failure, to match the electrical one New Yorkers experienced,” he charged.
