Georgia Ballot Access Case Presented to the US Supreme Court
The US Supreme Court has placed Cartwright v Perdue on its March 7 conference schedule. On January 16, the Georgia Libertarian Party asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its ballot access lawsuit.
The lawsuit was filed to overturn a state law that has kept all minor party candidates for U.S. House of Representatives off the ballot. At conference, the Court decides which cases to hear. The Court won’t release the results of its March 7 conference until the following Monday, March 10, at 10 a.m.
No petitioning is required for Democrat and Republican candidates.
Why the tyrants want open borders
by Kevin Tuma
Something funny is going on with the Immigration issue.
While hamhanded government minions have been oppressing pregnant mothers and silver-haired grannies in airports, the Feds have also simultaneously changed the US-Mexico border from a national barrier into a welcome mat. Willfully, and completely against the tide of public opinion, Uncle Sam has decided that there’s no more need for the INS to do anything about illegal immigration–with the possible exception of making sure undocumented aliens get food and water and clean blankets to sleep on while they are violating the laws of our land. Mexican truck drivers are invited to visit and prowl our highways, and George W. Bush wants to not only give illegal aliens amnesty, but Social Security benefits as well. This is all occurring in the midst of an overpoliced, overregulated, increasingly regimented United States society. The stampede of human traffic into the US must not be impeded. And by the way, our empty, open borders represent a recent change of political policy. The southern border was not this unguarded under Clinton. Republican loyalists, blind as lemmings, do not realize this, of course, as they do not realize many things.
Latest terror alert proves government has failed at its most basic mission, Libertarians say
WASHINGTON, DC - The heightened terror alert is actually a “Government Incompetence Alert,” Libertarians say, because the government is admitting that it cannot perform its most basic function: national defense.
“What’s truly alarming is that a government that will confiscate $2.2 trillion from its citizens this year is powerless to protect them,” said Libertarian Party Chair Geoffrey Neale. “And that should make Americans more angry than afraid.”
Free State Project reaches another milestone
The Free State Project (FSP) announced today that it has reached the halfway membership mark on its way to choosing a single state as the best location for libertarians and other advocates of limited government to settle and live. The FSP attained 2,500 signed-up members on January 29, 2003, putting it halfway toward its near-term goal of 5,000 members, whereupon the membership will vote on which of the finalist candidate states will be chosen.
The Free State Project aims to marshal 20,000 politically committed members who promise to move to the chosen state by signing a Statement of Intent. As such, they agree to migrate to the “Free State” within five years after the FSP attains 20,000 commitments. Part of the pledge is that once they arrive in the Free State, they will work to reduce the size of government until its only functions are protecting life, liberty, and property. If the Free State “Porcupines” (thus called because of the group’s logo) succeed, state and local taxes will ultimately be reduced to a fraction of current levels, laws creating “victimless crimes” will eventually be repealed, and property rights will be rigorously respected.
Justice Department’s actions in Martha Stewart case reveal double standard, Libertarians say
WASHINGTON, DC - Reports that federal investigators may file criminal charges against celebrity homemaker Martha Stewart raise a troubling question, Libertarians say: Why aren’t Dick Cheney and Terry McAuliffe facing criminal charges as well?
After all, both the vice president and the head of the Democratic National Committee have been accused of selling millions of dollars in stock before its value plummeted and ordinary investors lost their life savings.
Bush’s dirty little budget secret: $10 in new spending for every dollar in tax cuts, Libertarians say
WASHINGTON, DC — If you think President Bush’s tax cuts will save you money, guess again, Libertarians say, because the long-term spending increases in his new budget outnumber tax cuts by a ratio of 10 to 1.
“Showing gratitude for Bush’s tax cuts is like thanking a pickpocket for returning $10 of the $100 he just stole,” said Libertarian Party Chair Geoffrey Neale. “This budget proves that Bush and his Republican colleagues are nothing more than political pickpockets - and that the American people are their unwitting victims.”
