Slaying the Chimera: Toward a color-blind society

courtesy of Kevin TumaThis marks my second essay* on race. It may be the last. I don’t enjoy stirring up or hurting the feelings of people who are confused, and I really don’t like playing games with people who enjoy stirring the confusion.

Despite the fact that I personally have nothing to gain by broaching this volatile, touchy subject, the reason I have felt inwardly compelled to write something about race has been twofold:
One: For several years, I have been watching racism grow on the Internet. It has been swelling like a thundercloud. Cyberspace allows a perfect temperature setting for race hatred to bloat and balloon, like yeast dough.

Two: I recognize that race hucksters–charlatans–black supremacists, like Al Sharpton–are fueling the fires of bigotry, when bigotry really doesn’t need any more fuel.

State of the Union speech laid out agenda of ‘global welfare and global warfare,’ Libertarians say

Libertarian PartyWASHINGTON, DC — President Bush laid out an agenda in his State of the Union speech that will make most Americans worse off than before, Libertarians say, by expanding government spending and increasing the likelihood of war with Iraq.

“Americans who were hoping for peace and prosperity instead got a plan for global welfare and global warfare,” said Geoffrey Neale, Libertarian Party national chair. “Confiscating more money from struggling American workers is the worst prescription for a sputtering economy, and waging perpetual war will never achieve perpetual peace.”

Libertarians applaud Senate vote to strip funding for Total Information Awareness system

Libertarian PartyWASHINGTON, DC — A vote by the Senate on Thursday to block funding for the Pentagon’s Total Information Awareness program is a victory for ordinary Americans and a setback for the surveillance state, Libertarians say.

“Score one for Americans’ privacy and freedom,” said Geoffrey Neale, national chair of the Libertarian Party. “Now that politicians have been put on the defensive over this un-American spy scheme, it’s time to step up the pressure and bury it once and for all.”

LPNH Endorses Free State Project

Free State ProjectConcord - 17-Jan-2003 - At the January meeting of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire’s executive board, the party officially endorsed the Free State Project by unanimous vote.

The Free State Project is a rapidly growing movement that seeks to gain commitment from 20,000 people who pledge to move to a single, low-population state and work to peacefully institute political reforms there. FSP members will integrate into existing communities and work together with longtime residents to hold politicians accountable and to make government smaller and more responsive. Currently, the FSP has over 2,400 signed-on participants. New Hampshire is among the ten states being considered as the FSP target state.
