LNC Meeting Report December 14-15, 2002 Arlington VA
by Sean Haugh, Region 4 Alternate
Howdy all! This meeting was almost entirely consumed by money matters. The financial situation remains dire and top priority. LNC Chair Geoff Neale and Treasurer Deryl Martin have been spending a lot of time in the DC office. They are still digging to get the books in order and are implementing some solutions.

Pentagon’s “Total Information Awareness” database is step toward police state, Libertarians say
WASHINGTON, DC — A massive public surveillance system under development by the Pentagon - called “Total Information Awareness” - could help lay the framework for a police state in America and should be halted immediately, Libertarians say.
“This is Big Brother on steroids,” said George Getz, Libertarian Party communications director. “The government of a free country shouldn’t want surveillance powers like these. And the fact that the government wants them is proof that it shouldn’t have them.”
Holy Mary Mother of God
by Roderick T. Beaman
Under the direction of the Pope, the Catholic Church is developing another set of mysteries of the rosary. For those unfamiliar with it, the rosary, up till now, has consisted of three sets of mysteries. Each mystery consists of five decades of prayers. Each decade consists of one Our Father, ten Hail Marys and one Glory Be. The recitation becomes almost mantra like and each set of mysteries commemorates events in the life of Jesus and Mary.
The Joyful Mysteries commemorate the events surrounding Jesus’ birth. The Sorrowful Mysteries commemorate his suffering and death on the cross. The Glorious Mysteries commemorate the events after his physical death. Now, Catholics will celebrate a new set of mysteries called the Luminous Mysteries which will be dedicated to Jesus’ mother, Mary. Over the years, Catholics have been criticized and even attacked because of our devotion to Mary. Some other Christian sects have called it Marianolatry, the worship of Mary. It’s not really worship but it is devotion. We place a lot of stock in the importance of The Blessed Mother. Many of our churches are named after her. But why would we place so much stock in this woman?
