Libertarians tell Bush: Withdraw from NATO and save billions in “military welfare” costs
WASHINGTON, DC — Instead of welcoming several new countries into NATO at the summit that begins today in Prague, President Bush should pull the United States out of the unnecessary alliance and save taxpayers billions of dollars in “military welfare” costs, Libertarians say.
“NATO might as well stand for Never-ending American Taxpayer Obligation,” said Geoff Neale, the national chair of the Libertarian Party. “There’s no reason that the United States should keep paying to defend rich European nations like France, England and Germany against a Soviet threat that no longer exists.”
Time For Class
by Roderick T. Beaman
The Left has no class. This was never more amply demonstrated than with the recent obscenity of the memorial service for Sen. Paul Wellstone. There can be no doubt that it was planned right from the beginning to be a Democratic campaign rally. They uninvited Vice-President Cheney on grounds of security. We’re supposed to accept that that was a coincidence.
They crudely booed Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott of Mississippi and the Governor of the very same state, Minnesota, Jesse Ventura who walked out when the ceremonies deteriorated. Jesse Ventura is not my favorite person but no one can deny that he deserves respect simply by virtue of his office. Trent Lott is one of the most respected people in Washington and would be on everyone’s short list of true gentlemen in Congress. Yet they saw fit to boo him.
Libertarians urge Americans: Hold onto your wallets now that GOP controls both House and Senate
WASHINGTON, DC — Now that Republicans control both houses of Congress and the presidency, Americans should brace themselves for an era of skyrocketing federal spending and ballooning budget deficits, Libertarians say.
“Our prediction is that with a GOP Congress egging him on, George Bush is going to make Bill Clinton look like a fiscal conservative,” said George Getz, Libertarian Party communications director.
Between Iraq and a Hard Place
by Roderick T. Beaman
All together now, class, in a loud clear voice, “Saddam Hussein is not a nice man”. Do we all understand this? OK.
That said, why are we veering toward a war with this most unsavory person? He’s not bothering us. There’s barely evidence that he used chemical biological weapons against his own people but none that he used them against anyone else. Our Commander-in-Chief has stated that he possesses weapons of mass destruction (WMD), meaning, of course, nuclear weapons and chemical biological weapons. So? We do too. In fact, we are the first nation to have developed them and the only nation to ever use them. Based upon history, there is far more reason for the world to be concerned because we possess them than that Saddam Hussein might.
