Libertarian National Committee Endorsements

Sean HaughServing on the LNC is a tricky thing.  The goal is to discover and implement the best strategies for our growth, while strengthening our principles and keeping everybody working together.  That’s a pretty tall order.

Considering that there is no compensation involved, serving on the LNC requires a fair amount of sacrifice.  From a hierarchical standpoint, it is the ultimate volunteer position within our party.

But that’s a tricky thing.  You see, we are a bottom up grassroots organization.  You have to look no further than the rotting hulks of the Reform or Green parties to see how well a top down model works for new political parties.

North Carolina LP supports Illinois ballot access effort

Posted in Press Releases by R Lee Wrights on June 21st, 2002

Libertarian PartyThe executive committee of the Libertarian Party of North Carolina (LPNC) voted on June 15th, 2002, to offer a $2,000 loan to the Libertarian Party of Illinois (LPI), to help with their current ballot access petition drive.

“A year ago today, we were in exactly the same position as Illinois,” said Sean Haugh, Executive Director of the LPNC. “We needed $2,000 to finish our petition drive, and we had no money left.”

“Then,” Haugh continued, “the Libertarian Party of Florida offered to loan us the money, which was unprecedented. If it weren’t for a special last minute donation, we would have taken Florida up on their very kind offer. Now that we are safely on the ballot and financially healthy again, it only seemed right to help our Libertarian brothers and sisters in Illinois.”

1. He organized the LP of Centre County, PA in 1997.
2. In 1999, he recruited five candidates to run for county-wide office.  He ran for County Commissioner and received enough votes to qualify the LP for minor political party status in Centre County.
3. In 1999, he received the Achievement Award of the LP of PA.
4. In 2000, he was the LP candidate for Attorney General of PA.

Tom Howe’s sage advice

Posted in The N.C. Way by R Lee Wrights on June 7th, 2002

by Sean Haugh

Sean HaughLet me take on one of the more vexing issues in our party communications today.  That would be our email discussion lists.

Now, I love them and think they serve a vital role.  There are many things I could say on the topic, and I will probably do just that in some future columns.  Yet some of them have turned into toxic wastelands that present more harm than good to a state party.

But instead of writing my own stuff today, I am going take the easy way out and devote the rest of my column space here to my good friend and colleague, our LPNC Webmaster Tom Howe.  In a recent back-and-forth on our LPNC list, Tom said it better than I ever could.  Please take his words to heart.

Tom Howe’s sage advice:
