Don’t spend $435 million to pester Americans about sex and marriage
WASHINGTON, DC — A proposal by President George W. Bush to spend $300 million to encourage welfare mothers to marry and another $135 million to convince teenagers not to have sex should be rejected because it is “social engineering, Republican-style,” the Libertarian Party said today.
“The federal government does not belong in a teenager’s bedroom urging abstinence, nor in a wedding chapel mandating matrimony,” said Steve Dasbach, the party’s executive director. “While these proposals may seek to achieve beneficial social goals, they are outside the scope of what the government should — or can — do.

“It’s time to get angry, say enough is enough, and inform power-hungry nursemaids posing as politicians that their services are no longer required.”
