Bored of Education Flap

courtesy of Kevin TumaThe poor performance of America’s schools is front and center on just about every politician’s agenda.  And whenever there are politicians involved, there is always demagoguery.  The solution for almost all of them is throwing more government money at it.  Of course, all money comes with strings attached and with government, you can be sure that the strings will result in accomplishing precisely the opposite of what it’s supposed to.

I’m from a generation that had the highest average SAT scores on record.  I went to Catholic grammar school, public high school and private college.  I’ve concluded that most, if not all, social and economic problems stem from either an obstruction to freedom or an abrogation of responsibility, at some point.  You have to look back to the beginning of the process to and trace it forward to find it out but if you look long and hard enough, you will find it.  The results are like an error in astronomy.  A mistake of even a fraction of a degree will result in missing the target by light years.  Education is no exception.  So let’s look at it from the beginning.

Posted in Press Releases by R Lee Wrights on February 14th, 2002

Libertarian PartyWASHINGTON, DC — A New Hampshire woman who was arrested, handcuffed, and had her car impounded for not returning a late rental video is the latest victim of America’s wacky criminal justice system, the Libertarian Party charged today.

“You forget to return a video and you get treated like Hannibal Lector in Silence of the Lambs, and end up starring in Girls in Prison; what kind of sense does that make?” asked George Getz, the party’s press secretary.

Avoiding the curse of factions

Posted in The N.C. Way by R Lee Wrights on February 1st, 2002

Sean HaughWhy on earth would Libertarians want to combat each other instead of Big Government?  I just don’t get it.

My home state of North Carolina appears to be quite immune to this.  For this, I thank God every day.  What have we done to avoid the curse of factions?

Oh sure, we have our arguments over issues, strategy, and tactics, just like anyone else.  Sometimes it gets pretty hot.  But when all is said and done, we remain united in our mission.

Why?  Because deep down, we agree that anyone who declares themselves to be for Liberty is our friend and ally.  That’s just assumed.  Everything else is just details.

President Bush’s USA Freedom Corps is a wasteful ‘affront to American ideals’

Posted in Press Releases by R Lee Wrights on February 1st, 2002

Libertarian PartyWASHINGTON, DC — President Bush’s USA Freedom Corps is not only “warmed-over Clintonism,” it is a waste of tax dollars, an unnecessary enlargement of government-funded volunteer programs, and an affront to the ideals of America, the Libertarian Party charged today.

“The USA Freedom Corps is big-government Clintonism with a fresh coat of red, white, and blue paint,” said the party’s executive director, Steve Dasbach. “If Republicans really believed what they say, it would be the kind of pointless program they would abolish — not create.”
